I miss the old time buck knives that had a wooden handle, but I am told the new handle is safer. At any rate, this is a great knife. I own one and bought another as a gift.

This is a heavy, solid knife. Hard to imagine damaging it in any way other than chipping the blade. It opens smoothly but requires a fair bit of wrist action. Lockup is solid and the handle gives you an excellent grip, and is a flow-through design so the inside stays clean. It has thumb studs on both sides for you lefties, and a lanyard hole. Certainly too heavy to carry around your neck though. I really like the design and the look of it. My main complaint is that it didn’t come particularly sharp from the factory.

Over thirty years ago, when I received my first Buck knife, the iconic model 110 Folding Hunter, I became an instant fan.
The heavy brass and stainless construction, the beautiful ebony wood panels, the lockback mechanism so solid that it instantly turns a folding knife into a fixed blade, and (above all else) that legendary semi-hollow ground (Explanation here: [...]) high chrome carbon steel blade that is the stuff of folklore for its edge holding ability.
In fact, the model 110 is synonymous with high quality lockback knives, with honestly hundreds of imitators out there over the years.
Further, that knife is so famous that most people instantly recognize it as simply one word, “BuckKnife.”
I have owned three model 110s and one model 112 (slightly smaller version of the 110), but only because I had a bad habit of losing them.
I am quite sure that first 110 I owned would still be riding on my hip if I had not been careless, and I am equally confident that Buck would have repaired it if I had broken it during all that time.
Today, I decided to move up to something a bit more utilitarian in terms of handling ability, so I ordered this, and I am not disappointed in the least.
Oh, and for those of you for whom this really matters, as it does with me, this knife is made right here in the good ol’ US of A!
A quick rundown of the features on this includes:
1) Very nice Kraton (synthetic rubber that won’t oxidize) handle inserts – Great non-slip ergonomics, and the knife stays in my hand, even if wet. There is also a single small finger groove for the index finger just aft of the blade hinge.
2) Really solid liner locking mechanism – Every bit as solid as the tooth style used on the original 110, and possibly even more rigid.
3) Ambidextrous thumb stud on the base of the blade – Effortless one-handed opening.
4) Stainless knife body – Pleasing to the eye, plus very durable with a minimum of care. For anyone to whom it matters, there is an integral lanyard hole on the end of the handle opposite the blade. There are also multiple notches on the spine of the blade near the hinge to prevent slippage from a thumb placed against it, and there are similar notches on the palm side of the handle at the opposite end to provide a secondary gripping surface. It also is a good idea how the the handle design allows any debris that gets in there to simply fall through instead of getting caught inside the way it can with a conventional tooth style lockback.
5) Bronze hinge washers – Self-lubricating => makes the blade practically glide open and closed.
6) The vaunted 420HC steel blade – Yep, it’s semi-hollow ground and made of the same steel used in the 110. The blade is a backswept clip style of stouter construction than that used on the 110, nicely suited to hunting and skinning. I also see that Buck intelligently designed the blade to not allow its cutting surface to contact the inside of the handle, nicely preventing it from dulling itself. It should also be mentioned that the factory edge is nearly as good as a professional could do with an extended time with a fine set of whet stones.
7) A nice very rugged Cordura sheath – has belt loops that permit carrying the knife either vertically or horizontally. Also has a snap closure that I prefer over Velcro.
Don’t forget, folks, Buck has an ironclad warranty with their products, that being you don’t get a one year or even lifetime warranty.
No sir, Buck is so confident in their products that they will repair it FOREVER!
I doubt you will need to use that anytime soon, though.
After all, this IS a buck!

I really enjoy this Knife. This is the first time I have strayed away from the 110 when purchasing a buck knife and I am pleased with the change.

this is a great knife! it is sturdy, and a bit on the heavy side but i like that. the blade is strong, stays sharp, and is very very hard to bend! many of the knives iv had have bent at the the tip. just keep the knife dry after youv washed it because it does get rust spots. the rubber grips are great, easy to clean, and make sure the knife will never slip from your hand. because of this i recommend it over the version with the wood grips. the lock is very strong and will not fail unless you are using the blade improperly! the blade also opens very smoothly. all in all this knife is a must have for some one who demands a tuff reliable knife that you can take on the job or out hunting! comes with a nice very heavy duty sheath that you can mount on you belt ether horizontally or vertically.
