  1. The Knife is at best OK. The blade is average. Harder to open than I thought it would be.The blade dose not hold it’s edge better or longer than any average Knife. I guess I was expecting the Camillus of old.The knife is OK and if you can find it on sale it may do what you need.As long as you don’t expect a lot.

  2. Ciaran Luke says:

This is a large pocket knife that could serve defensively/tactically if occasion required, and would do well as a utility EDC blade. The AUS8 steel is like all AUS8, strong and resistant. A good mid range steel at a pretty low price; the SOG Trident costs more, though is a far better blade. The G10 handle is sufficient nad given the size of the knife, works well. The whole thing is large, but still compact for the blade it has, of about 4 inches. I cannot say how strong the black finish is.

My sentiments concerning this blade take three forms. First the thumb stud is not ambidextrous, which I believe all knives (and sheaths if they have them) should be. The Amazon photo does not make that precisely clear either, and in this knife design, the opening mechanism could be made double sided.

Secondly, the thumb stud itself, which is likely the biggest appeal in this knife is not all that good. Even for the right handed, it can be a pain to open. The blade is slightly stiff in its position and the thumbs stud seems master poor leverage over the blade, perhaps because of poor placement or a shortage of torque and friction reducing methods, like a simple plastic washed. I might tell you more, but the handle does not take to being unscrewed. I’m forgetting what the studs that keep each side of the handle together are called, you know what I mean (rivets?). In most knives of this sort, there is a screw on one side of the that sits tight in the other. That other bit cannot itself be spun around (typically it is no circular to keep it locked up) so that you can keep it in place while the screw in the center is removed. Not so here, both ends have screw heads, and spinning one spins its brothers across the way, so they both remain. Therefore the tightness of the blade would be difficult to adjust. Also, the thumb stud is made of the same G10 as the handle and feels thin and flimsy.

Lastly, the lock up simply did not work in my case. I’ve heard others say this. If all else were in order, this might be work correcting by bending the loose part of the liner lock (It’s a liner lock by the way) out further so its holds the blade more securely, though really that should be up to the manufacturers. And without being able to open the thing up myself, this correction becomes impossible. So instead, with a strong flick with your finger, you can take the knife out of its open “lock” position and put your fingers at risk, and look stupid carrying a half deployed blade, that just doesn’t want to commit.

I appreciate the price, materials, size and blade shape, but too much goes wrong with this thing that it’s worth passing over. The clip is adequate, though on the blade end opposite from the stud. It cannot be relocated, unless you want to put a drill and make other positions for it. In other knives, it might be worth it.

Next I’ll be trying the similarly priced and sized Camillus Wildfire Robo Power Assisted opening- the 4.5″ when closed one. I have a feeling it will be better. Camillus have made several very good knives, this was just not one.
