I own multiple Spyderco knives and decided to get one of their cheaper ones. Although the Tenacious is sharp I don’t feel that it lives up to Spyderco standards. Yes it was made in China but that doesn’t mean Spyderco can skimp on quality (ok, it’s one of their cheapest large-bladed knives).

    Pros:

    Sharp

    Love the classic thumb hole

    Liner Lock!

    Cons:

Bigger than expected – very wide and doesn’t fit well clipped in a pocket

Hasn’t broken in yet despite oiling the action and working it in

I am a fan of the slimmer-profile knives so I would recommend this knife to others but only because it is a Spyderco (their warrantee rocks).

For the price point, this is a spectacular deal on a Spyderco. I’ve owned other higher-end Spyderco knives that cost over $130 and to be honest, you definitely can tell the difference between them and the Tenacious…but at $28 for a Tenacious, I got way more than I expected. It’s a great every day carry (EDC) knife. It’s lightweight but still has a decent heft to it, G-10 has a nice tackiness to it that allows a sure grip, reliable frame lock, and a pocket clip that allows for point up/down carry.

This knife was such a great deal, I actually bought both the Tenacious plain edge and the serrated blade. IMHO, I’d stick with the plain edge unless you really need a serrated blade for a particular purpose. Not sure if there’s a manufacturing flaw in the frame lock of the serrated blade Tenacious, but the frame lock on the serrated blade doesn’t seem to snap into place as securely as the frame lock on the plain edge Tenacious.

Anyways, for the price point, this is an outstanding EDC knife with some great features. Is it your typical Spyderco quality? Not really, but what the hell do you expect for $28?

I carry a knife at work on my tugboat every day. I have been doing so for about 12 years now. I’ve had better knives and also had to make due with bargain knives from time to time. This is a very happy medium. I used to worry about damaging my Benchmade, and I’ve drooled over some hand made knives but I know that I’ll either break them or lose them before too long. On the other hand, cheap knives can’t be trusted when you really need them.

I bought this model in a shop in New Orleans for about $55 and liked it so much I decided to pick up another one (for $20 less on Amazon). My only complaint is that it loses it’s edge rather quickly with regular use. But if you have even a cheap hand sharpener, and use it, the knife very easily will take a razor sharp edge.

It’s not too fancy, but it’s nice to use, comfortable in the hand, and a great bargain.
